Books That Boys Will Love

It is the first full day of summer, for you guys and gals anyway, but I started my reading early, so here are some books for you to peruse. I say books that boys will love, but really these books are for anyone that loves action and adventure.

From our summer reading list is Jake Ransom and the Skull King's Shadow. The main character is Jake Ransom, and he and his sister get sent back in time or through space and found themselves in a mystery surrounding their parents' disappearance. They must face and defeat the Skull King, and evil being that threatens the new world they find themselves in. I think this book is like Indiana Jones for today. (Do you know who Indiana Jones is?!) The boy must use his vast knowledge of ancient civilizations to help him defeat the Skull King. This is the first in a series, so we are left with more clues about the Ransom parents, but the mystery is left unsolved. The book is full of action and adventure, mystery and suspense. I loved it and have added the rest of the series to my list.

Also from our summer reading list is Mudshark. This book has more comedy than the Jake Ransom book, and it a bit shorter as well. Mudshark is a bit of a detective, much like Sean from Psych (one of my favorite shows!), and he is perplexed when a talking parrot comes to his school and threatens to take his place. Mudshark also has to figure out what is happening to the school erasers, they are disappearing from every classroom. The author is Gary Paulson, who has written Hatchet and Lawn Boy, two popular books. I thought the book was funny, and it is a quick read.

One of my favorites from last summer is due to have the last of the series printed this summer, and it is a wonderful series. It is the Fablehaven series. The first is called Fablehaven. It is about a brother and sister who end up having to spend the summer with their grandparents. Little do they know that their grandparents are the caretakers of a reserve for mythical creatures. Someone is trying to destroy the preserves around the world, and the pair embark on an adventure to save them. This was one of my favorite series from last summer, and I know that you will enjoy them too.

Girls, please do not hesitate to read any of these books, I really love them! None of them are strictly for boys, but are not about "girlie" things, like the next few books I review will be!

Happy reading!
